WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA -- Duke University moved up to number 3 in
the ESPN/USA Today Mens College Basketball poll this week, as it
stretched its conference winning streak to 28 games, setting a new
conference record. Since the streak began in 1998, the team has changed
completely. It now includes LDS returned missionary Matt Christensen, a
sophomore who redshirted last season.
Christiansen has been a contributor to the team also. He has played,
coming in from the bench, in 16 of the team's 17 games this season.
Ironically, another LDS player was on the team when the streak started.
Center Chris Burgess, who played from the bench behind Center Elton
Brand, transferred to Utah in an attempt to get more playing time.
However, Brand decided to enter the NBA draft early, and Duke is playing
better than Utah, which is ranked #19 in the poll.
