LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA -- 11-year-old Phillip Talalima is in grave
condition at UCI Medical Center after he was shot in the head on
Saturday night. His family is praying for his recovery while he lies
in intensive care struggling to recover.
Talalima had attended an activity at a Mormon church in Santa Ana and
then gone with his family to a relative's house to play. He and his
friends became hungry and decided to go to Jack in the Box. Borrowing
money, Talalima kissed his mother goodbye and left with his brother
and friends.
Police say that the boys evidently stopped and looked at some bikes
parked in front of a North Gates Street residence when a neighbor
came out shouting at them. The startled boys ran in several
directions, and witnesses heard four or five gunshots. The Police
then found Talalima lying in the road and took him to the hospital
with a gunshot wound to the head.
At the hospital, family members told reporters that Phillip was a
good, obedient kid. His mother, Monalisa Talalima said, "He would
always help out. He'd say, 'Mom, go to bed. I'll do the dishes,' "
