Hinckley's Book Hit's #34 On USA Today List
(USA Today's top best sellers)
USA Today 24Feb00 A1

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley's book "Standing for Something" debuted on USA Today's list of the best selling books in the U.S. at #34, and the publisher, Times Books, is reporting strong sales. Following strong advance demand for the book, Times Books printed 140,000 copies, and has since gone back to press twice, raising the total number of copies in print to 175,000 copies.

The book has also been ranked highly on Amazon.com's list of best selling titles, ranking this morning at #71. Initially the book was released in Utah on February 12th, and then was released Nationally on February 22nd.

USA Today's list is significantly different from the better-known New York Times Book Review's list. It includes all books in a single list, regardless of whether the book is fiction or non-fiction, paperback or hardcover, while the Times divide's up its lists. USA Today's list also appear's much quicker than the Times - the Times' most recent issue -- February 27th -- included sales for the week ending February 12th. Amazon.com's system for counting best sellers is similar to that of USA Today, but only count's Amazon's own sales.

Times Book's Will Weiser said that the company is very pleased with the reaction to the book, "We're seeing a huge amount of interest in the book. Its been very exciting."
