Utah Rep. Merrill Cook Has Surgery
(Newsline briefs: Cook set to undergo surgery at LDS Hospital)
Deseret News 23Feb00 D2
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Representative Merrill Cook, a Republican
who represents Utah in the U.S. House of Representatives, was
scheduled to have corrective intestinal surgery Wednesday during a
House recess for the President's Day holiday. The surgery is meant to
correct a perforated intestine that put Cook in the hospital twice
last year.
Cook entered the hospital in good health, and doctors planned just a
one-week stay following the surgery. He will reduce his work schedule
for a couple of weeks after he leaves the hospital. In addition to
his normal duties as a congressman, Cook is in the midst of a
re-election campaign in which he is facing opposition within his
party as well as without.
