NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- The New York, New York Stake is sponsoring an
all-day festival of the arts on Saturday, March 4th, running from
9:30 am to 3 p.m. and from 8:00 p.m. to Midnight. Open to the general
public, the festival features the work of members of the stake, many
of whom are professional artists in a variety of fields.
The festival includes three tracks of events in the morning as well
as a visual arts exhibition. The evening session includes a classical
works concert and midnight readings of original literature. It will
feature visual artists and performing artists, as well as authors.
Artists performing will include jazz pianist and composer Lisa
Despain and classical pianist Scott Holden, Harriet Petherick Bushman
will also present a concert of hymns in contemporary styles,
including Mormon jazz, Soul and Hip Hop.
But the festival also goes beyond the artists themselves, and seeks
to assist the public in making art part of their lives. One workshop
will focus on buying art while another is a children's fair that will
allow children aged 3 to 12 to get involved in paiting, music and
dance. The festival also has an academic focus, including a panel
discussion on the arts and the Church.
The festival will be held in the New York, New York Stake Center in
Manhattan, on 65th street and Broadway, across the street from the
world-famous Lincoln Center for the Arts.
