BUENA VISTA, VIRGINIA -- A new student chapter of the BYU Management
Society has been formed at Southern Virginia College, the Virginia
college that espouses LDS values in its management and student
conduct. The formation of the student chapter was approved last
October by the Blue Ridge Chapter, the closest chapter to Buena
Vista, Virginia where the college resides.
The chapter is meant to enhance the professional lives of SVC
students through education, leadership and professional opportunities
provided by the BYU Management Society. The chapter has already
brought some high-profile speakers to SVC, including BYU Law
Professor Richard G. Wilkins, founder of BYU's World Family Policy
Center and UN activist for families. Russell S. Tompkins,
COO/managing director of Osprey Partners Investment Management, and
Michael J. Glauser, PhD, author of The Business of Heart, have also
spoken to the chapter.
The chapter also recently sponsored a trip to an MBA forum in
Washington D.C. and several members attended an e-commerce conference
in New York City. SVC business professor Todd Brotherson serves as
chapter advisor, which already has a full slate of student officers,
including chapter president Darrell Manning, director of programs
Scott McKeon, director of corporate relations Harvey Scott, and
public relations director Alison Bennion.
