KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII -- It actually happened. Mormonism's most
eligible bachelor, Steve Young, was married yesterday to former model
and public relations professional Barbara Graham, 31, a summa cum
laude graduate of Arizona State University. The marriage was
solemnized in the Kailua-Kona LDS Temple, which the couple left about
3:15 p.m., and was followed by a reception featuring a luau, complete
with roast pig and burning torches.
Because of media interest, security at the wedding was fairly tight.
The couple were hidden from view by friends when they exited and got
into cars at the Temple and a police officer and a security guard
kept four journalists covering the wedding at least 200 feet from the
building.
Young's agent and lawyer Leigh Steinberg said, "He's really excited.
She's wonderful. Very bright. A very mature yet sweet personality.
And beautiful.'' About 90 guests joined Young's and Graham's families
at the Orchid resort hotel starting Sunday. The luau was actually
Monday night and included Polynesian music and a man juggling flaming
spears. Young and his family even entertained the guests by
performing the hula dance, according to Steinberg, "He needs to stick
to football," he added.
The wedding caps a line of three girlfriends to whom Young had
proposed, including BYU graduates Aimee Baglietto and Stephanie
Weston. But Young reportedly pulled out of both relationships.
"There's always been extra scrutiny on Steve and his romantic
life,"Steinberg told the San Francisco Chronicle. "He's arguably the
best known Mormon figure in the world. There has been enormous
pressure on him."
Young and Graham plan a honeymoon trip around the world, but have
kept their precise plans private to avoid publicity.
