LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Another Mormon in the news for the good that he
is doing. This time its the story of Mark Howard, the CEO of
Columbia/HCA MountainView Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. He attended Snow
College, BYU, and UCLA, ending up with a masters degree in hospital
administration. After spending time in the Air Force and over two
decades in the health care sector in Utah, he was hired at his
current job.
"Here's a guy who comes out of nonprofit sector in Utah, comes here
to for-profit center in a (comparatively) hard-bitten place, and runs
it humanely," said Mitch Keamy, an doctor at the hospital. "He runs a
Columbia hospital for a corporation not known for warmheartedness and
puts on a clinic."
The article notes that Howard brings a caring and hardworking ethic
from his days on the farm in Idaho. Besides his hospital job, he
serves as chairman of the Bighorn BSA District, as an officer in the
American College of Healthcare Executives, and has a family of wife
and four children. Howard sums up devotion to family with the quote
"There's no other success in life that can compensate for failure at
home," Howard said. "I really believe that."
