MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN -- The traveling Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit prepared
by FARMS has reached Wisconsin, notes the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
The exhibit is set up at the Brookfield LDS Chapel for today and
Wednesday and will be at the Hales Corners LDS Chapel on Friday and
Saturday.
The free display is traveling in conjunction with the Dead Sea Scrolls
exhibit at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago that opened
March 10th and runs through June 18th. BYU's FARMS is one of several
co-sponsors of the Field Museum exhibit, due to BYU's involvement with
the scrolls.
FARMS' Director of Operations Brent Hall says that BYU originally got
involved with the scrolls when asked to preserve some of them
digitally, because of the resources BYU has from high-tech companies in
Utah. Its relationship has grown, as four BYU scholars later became
members of the translation team working on the scrolls. "The Dead Sea
Scrolls are an international treasure," Hall said. "We just felt that
for all those people who can't travel to Chicago or Jerusalem, this
would be an excellent opportunity."
