ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND -- This is a very favorable, quite lengthy
article about Navy linebacker Jake Bowen. Bowen, who stood out on
the football field in 1997, left that fall to serve a mission for The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Bowen served a full-time mission to Maceio, a city of nearly 750,000 on the northeast coast of Brazil.
The article does a good job of describing the rigors of serving a foreign
mission, as well as describing the benefits to Bowen and other missionaries.
Now, after a 2-year hiatus, Bowen is back in the United States, back at the
academy, back to playing football. And he appreciates all of those things
far more today than he did two years ago.
