New Zealand Paper Reports Assault Charges Against LDS Missionary
(Mormon faces court)
Christchurch NZ Press (NZPA) 11May00 N1
WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND -- Details are not clear in this report that
an LDS missionary is accused of assaulting a Levin, New Zealand man
on his back doorstep. Peter Munro claims that an LDS missionary that
he had earlier turned away from his door returned and assaulted him,
claiming that he tried to run them down in his car.
Munro claims that on Saturday, May 6th, after he turned away the two
missionaries, he went out in his car, and returned home about 12:30
p.m. The missionaries then returned. "They accused me of trying to
knock them down in my car. I never got a chance to explain, the big
one grabbed me. Next thing I knew I was on the floor getting my head
kicked in. I woke up in a pool of blood and they were gone," he said.
Munro also says that a member of the Levin LDS Church contacted him
after the matter to apologize. Peter Williams told Munro he wanted to
"smooth the matter out."
Munro calls the incident bizarre, "I didn't see it coming. It's a bit
of a blow to the ego, getting beaten up by the God-botherers," he
said.
