Finding Local LDS Chapels On-line
(Go online to find church)
Deseret News 20May00 N6
By Lynn Arave: Deseret News staff writer
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- The Deseret News' Lynn Arave points out
that finding the nearest church of your faith when you travel can be
difficult, and suggests that travelers use the Internet to find
local chapels. Among several sources that she suggests is the web site
LDS Traveler - www.ldstraveler.com. Other suggestions for finding local congregations include searching the on-line telephone directories.
The problem is a real one. A few LDS travelers have posted
requests for local chapel addresses and phone numbers on LDS email lists
where such requests are permitted, such as on Mormon Index. Others check
with their own local leaders before traveling, asking for phone
numbers for the Church's directory for leaders.
Unfortunately, Mormon News found LDS Traveler - www.ldstraveler.com much less useful than it might seem. The search form on the site is actually a gateway to the Big Yellow directory, giving listings of all chapels, regardless of faith, for a particular area. A search for chapels in New York City, for example, returned the response that there were too many chapels to be listed. And this seemed to be all there is to the site.
