ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI -- BYU's Lacrosse team entered the
United States Intercollegiate Associates National
Championship Tournament as a sixth seed contender, and
came away victorious. The men's team played four
games in four days and won the tourney, making them
national champs for the second time out of their last
four trips to the tournament.
In addition to winning the tournament, BYU was honored
again as three team members took home MVP awards.
Sophomore Rex Hardy was named USLIA National
tournament MVP for his 12 goals and three assists.
Junior Steve Austin was named Offensive MVP for his 13
goals, three assists, and 16 total tournament points.
Senior goalie Dave Johnson was named Defensive MVP,
saving 55 of 92 shots on goal.
Further kudos go to the BYU team members who were
named to the USLIA All-Tournament team: Aaron Quiggle,
Rex Hardy, Steve Austin, and Dave Johnson were placed
on the All-Tournament first team, and Troy Taylor and
Stuart Hunt were placed on the second team.
"Going to the national championship is going to be a
tradition with this club," said co-captain Dan
Murdock. "Never overlook a six seed."
