PAHRUMP, NEVADA -- A wildfire in Nevada has threatened the annual
girls camp held by the Red Rock LDS Stake. The 160 acre fire has been
burning out-of-control since Sunday, and US Forest Service employees
reported that the fire was only five percent contained.
The camp is still on, however, according to Red Rock Stake President
Mark Albright. He says he has spoken with the US Forest Service about
the situation. "We are in contact with officials from the U.S. Forest
Service and fire department and as of yet have no plans to cancel the
camp, But I sent out a fax to all of the bishops in our stake, asking
them to compile a list of ready drivers to take the girls off of the
mountain if evacuation is called for,"
More than 400 young women between the ages of 12 and 18 were
scheduled to arrive at Camp Stimpson for the weeklong event.
