(Mormon Church Leader Turns 90)
Associated Press 26Jun00 N2
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley's
Birthday part was recognized in newspapers across the US that carried
a report of Friday nights's "Evening of Celebration" in the LDS
Church's Conference Center. Noting that the audience and performers
joined to sing "Happy Birthday" to President Hinckley at the end of
the performance, the Associated Press wrote, "'Happy Birthday' sounds
pretty impressive when sung by 21,000 people and the Mormon
Tabernacle Choir."
The Associated Press also noted that Hinckley was wearing leis of
pink and white flowers over his tuxedo when he emerged for the
performance, greeting the standing-room-only audience at the
Conference Center Friday.
