Both BYU Campuses Advance In US News Rankings
PROVO, UTAH -- Both BYU's main campus in Provo and BYU-Hawaii in
Laie, Hawaii advanced in US News &World Reports' annual survey of US
colleges. BYU advanced in the "National Universities" category,
ranking 78th out of the 228 universities in the category, up from
80th last year. And BYU-Hawaii ranked 11th among "Western Liberal
Arts Colleges," up from 14th last year.
Overall, BYU's main campus scored well, recording its best ranking in
its accounting program, which is ranked 6th in the nation. Its
undergraduate business school also ranked well, at 38th in a
three-way tie with Tulane University and Virginia Tech. The general
management program in the school of business ranked 36th. The
undergraduate engineering program also was noticed by the magazine,
ranking 86th, in a tie with seven other universities.
BYU-Hawaii is included in the Western Liberal Arts Colleges with 61
other schools in sixteen Western US states. The number 11 ranking
puts BYU-Hawaii in the magazine's top tier of liberal arts colleges
in those states.
The two other LDS Church-owned institutions of higher education,
Ricks College (soon to be BYU-Idaho) and the LDS Business College,
were not included because the rankings were limited to four-year
institutions. Ricks was listed (but not ranked) as a community
college. However, as Ricks College makes the transition to a
four-year campus of BYU, it will begin to be ranked by US News and
World Report.
