Open House Makes Strange Bedfellows
BELMONT, MASSACHUSETTS -- The Salt Lake Tribune's Rolly & Wells
report that US Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Mass) will be escorted on his tour of the
LDS Church's new Boston Temple today by his former opponent, Salt Lake
Organizing Committee President Mitt Romney. Kennedy is just one of
500 VIPs that will be given special tours of the building, which is scheduled
to be dedicated on October 1st.
Romney, who has gained attention recently for taking over the effort
to host the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games in the wake of a massive
bribery scandal, challenged Kennedy in a 1994 race for the veteran senator's
sea that many considered very close. Campaign rhetoric was hot enough to
make many assume the two men would be uncomfortable around each other.
Kennedy is currently running for re-election and Romney has said he
will see elective office in 2002, immediately following the Olympic Games,
however, Romney hasn't announced what office he will seek.
