Donny and Marie Hosting Redone 'Miss America'
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Producers of the 80th annual Miss America
Pageant are hoping that a snazzy new stage set, a techno-pop version
of "There She Is" and a boy band performing live will solve an old
problem with sagging television ratings.
"It has a much younger, more contemporary feel," said the show's
producer, Jeff Margolis, who gave the media a live sneak peek at the
opening number Tuesday.
For the second year, the telecast will be hosted by Donny and Marie
Osmond. Along with other changes, Margolis says, "We're not even
calling it a 'pageant.' This year's telecast will simply be named
'Miss America.'"
Producers pushed the broadcast back a month so the ABC-TV broadcast
wouldn't have to compete with NBC's coverage of the Olympic Games.
