BYU's Marriage Info Website Redesigned
PROVO, UTAH -- BYU's Family Studies Center has redesigned its marriage
information site, narrowing its purpose and making it easier for visitors to
understand what is available there. The website is a source of resources
about marriage, but it is not a counseling center, as some past visitors
assumed.
Now called "Before Forever," the site can be found at
http://marriageinfo.byu.edu. It is
run by BYU graduate Abby Viveiros, who has targeted the new site to engaged
couples and those preparing for marriage. On the site, visitors will find a
collection of LDS Conference talks, BYU Devotional talks, Ensign articles,
articles written by professors, and other sources. The site also has a
wedding planner, financial worksheets, counseling referral information and
links to other marriage programs.
BYU Student Erin Hansen, 23, of Sykesville, Maryland, says that the sites
resources are an important part of pre-wedding planning, "It brings up
issues," she said. "There are a lot of things to talk about - disciplining
children, Sabbath day - things you really need to talk about before you get
married."
Until recently, the site was called the Marriage Resource Center, but
according to Viveiros, some visitors were getting the wrong idea, "We were
getting a lot of e-mails about counseling," she said. "We want to be a
resource center, not a counseling center." She said this misunderstanding
led to the redesign, "We decided to narrow it down to a marriage prep
resource center."
