BYU Students Prepare for National and World Taekwondo Championships
PROVO, UTAH -- Three BYU students, Carloyn Clark, Marisa Beebe, and Melany
Moras, competed recently in the Utah State Taekwondo Championships, winning
medals there, and are preparting for the 2001 National Collegiate
Championships to be held October 26 in Austin, Texas. The winners of this
competition will advance to the World Championships. The women are members
of the BYU Taekwondo Club, which started two years ago by instructors Burton
Sparks and Melany Moras, the current club president. Moras has been involved
in Taekwondo for fourteen years and has won a bronze medal at the Pan
American games. Now she says her dreams are to go to the Olympics. She is a
three time Utah state champion and is an internationally-renowned competitor.
