Architectural Award Given to LDS Conference Center
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- Builder magazine and the annual PCBC building
trade show have given a 2001 Gold Nugget Grand Award to the LDS Church's
Conference Center, one of two winners in the 'Best Public/Private Special
Use Facility.' The annual awards, given each year since 1963 to recognize
the best architecture and landscaping in 14 western US states, are the
oldest and largest program of its kind.
The award was presented last month at the PCBC trade show in San Francisco.
Awards were given in a total of 45 different categories covering
residential, commercial and industrial projects. Winners are judged on their
aesthetic merit, innovation and effectiveness in design and planning. Judges
include some of the finest architects, planners and builders in the industry
as well as nationally recognized marketing and market research consultants,
publishers and senior editors from industry publications. The center shared
the Gold Nugget Grand Award in its category with the Orange County Fire
Authority Fire Station #51 in Irvine, California.
The center was designed by architectural firm Zimmer Gunsul Frasca
Partnership and built by Legacy Contractors, a joint venture of three
Utah-based companies, Layton Construction, Okland Construction and Jacobsen
Construction. The center has previously won a 2001 Aon Build America Merit
Award.
