Harrison Temple Delayed, Issue in Recent Town Board Election |
The Harrison, New York Town Board again delayed a
decision on the LDS Church's proposed temple by commissioning a fourth study
of the proposal's effect on traffic in the neighborhood. The decision, which
came just over a week before Tuesday's election, which included several
board seats, will delay the board's decision for at least six months. The
week before the board's decision, the issue of the temple was raised by
voters at a League of Women Voters candidates debate. |

Holmoe Resigns: Cal Coach Out After 11-game Losing Streak |
Tom Holmoe, one of just three Mormon NCAA Divsion I
head coaches, has resigned from the UC Berkeley Goldon Bears effective the
end of the season. Holmoe's resignation caps a 12-year coaching career that
included a fast seven-year rise to head coach, but also a declinging record
over the past three seasons. "It's with deep regret that I arrived at this
decision," Holmoe said in a statement. "We had great dreams when we took
over the reins here five years ago, and it's unfortunate that many of those

LDS Church: 'No Position' on Storing Nuclear Waste in Utah |
In a statement issued by Dale Bills, spokesman for
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the Church publicly says it
"has taken no position on the question of storing nuclear waste in Utah."
The statement came in response to some members of the church in Utah
pressing church leaders to issue a statement against allowing nuclear waste
to be shipped to the Skull Valley Goshute Indian Reservation, 45 miles east
of Salt Lake City. An agreement has been signed by leaders of the
reservation with Private Fuel Storage to allow the company to place nuclear
waste on 125 acres of reservation land that has been leased for the purpose. |

Omagh's LDS Survivor Still Suffering |
More than three years after the worst atrocity in
Northern Ireland's 30-year-long civil war, known as the Troubles, LDS Church
member Marion Radford is still suffering from the blast, struggling to
overcome its deep psychological wounds, caused both by her own injuries, and
by the death of her 16-year-old son, Alan. Events like the terrorist attacks
on the Pentagon and World Trade Center, a detailed public inquest into the
bombing and the recent discovery of a 130-pound pipe bomb just 12 miles from
Omagh, keep the tragedy fresh in her mind, leading to new rounds of panic
and depression. |
