Mormon Olympics or Games as Usual?

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA -- KCRW (FM 89.9) is the National Public Radio affiliate in Santa Monica, California. They produce and broadcast a one-hour interview radio program called "To the Point," hosted by Warren Olney.

The main topic of Tuesday's show was the influence of the Church on the upcoming Olympic games. Olney interviewed a spokesperson the Church (by phone from Salt Lake City), then simultaneously interviewed non-LDS scholar Jan Shipps; the founder of a group opposing the Salt Lake Olympics; and a former member who is involved with the anti-Mormon web site ExMormon.org. (The Church spokesperson declined to participate in discussion with critics of the Church.)

If you have Real Audio's RealPlayer (free at www.real.com) you can listen to the entire program at: http://www.kcrw.com/cgi-bin/db/kcrw.pl?show_code=tp&air_date=1/29/02&tmplt_type=Show

The first five to ten minutes of the program focused on Enron/Dick Cheney news; the main topic comes in after that and runs about 40 minutes.
