LDS RM to start at Duke (Christensen finally gets his chance)
DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA -- LDS Returned Missionary Matt Christensen will
start his first regular-season game for Duke University's basketball
team on Thursday when the Blue Devils play Stanford at Madison Square
Garden in New York City. Christensen was used occasionally at Duke
during the 1995-96 season, before he left on a mission for Germany.
Christensen redshirted last season.
Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski says he's glad to have Christensen, "He's
shown he can play; he will play good minutes," says Krzyzewski. At
6-foot-10, 240-pounds Christensen has the potential to be a real
presence, and he is needed with teammate Carlos Boozer out with an
injury.
Christensen says he will make the most of the situation, "I need to
concentrate on being a real physical presence," he said. "I think that
will manifest itself most in rebounding and defensive pressure. It's
fantastic [to be playing again]."
