SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- LDS business executive and the former general
manager of LDS Church-owned Deseret Management Corp., the holding
company for the Church's for-profit businesses, died December 11th of
cancer in Salt Lake City. He was 75.
Scowcroft was an Ogden native trained in management at the University
of Utah before he received an MBA from the prestigious Northwestern
University in 1952. From there he spent 23 years working for Standard
Oil Co. of Indiana and AMOCO, working chiefly from New York City and
from Chicago. In 1974 he went to work for Deseret Management. He
helped found several Utah technology support organizations, including
Utah Ventures, Utah Technology Finance Corporation and Process
Innovators and was past president of Mountain West Venture Group.
After retiring, he served on the Boards of many local firms such as
Maverick Country Stores, Deseret Mutual Benefit Association and the
Salt Lake Advisory Board of First Security Bank.
While in New York and Chicago, he served as a member of stake high
councils there and was a member of the Chicago Stake Presidency and a
regional representative.
