Fortunately, Time has kept all religious leaders off another poll, its
"Phonies and Frauds of the 20th Century" poll, which has undoubtedly
robbed anti-Mormons of a venue.
Ironically for the misguided attempts to promote him, President Hinckley
doesn't even qualify for Time's person of the century since he wasn't
part of the original Time 100 chosen earlier this year. But, observes
the Associated Press' Richard N. Ostling, there is one Mormon that does
qualify. Philo Farnsworth is on the list because he "more or less
invented television."
Ostling's article explains Time's reasons for excluding Jesus and many
other religious figures from its Person of the Century polls.
