LDS Representative Tells Vermont Legislature to Amend Constitution |
In the wake of last month's Vermont Supreme Court
decision that gay and lesbian couples are entitled to the same benefits
enjoyed by married couples, the Vermont legislature held hearings what
legislation should be enacted to implement the decision. Opponents of
same-sex marriage, including the LDS Church, testified before the
Vermont House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, arguing that the
legislature should either ignore the decision or try to enact a
constitutional amendment prohibiting same-sex marriage. |
Supreme Court Case on Gays in Scouts could affect LDS Church |
The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal in
the case of a former New Jersey Scout leader who was kicked out of
Scouting after the Boy Scouts of America learned he is homosexual. The
Boys Scouts of America appealed the decision of the New Jersey Supreme
Court last summer, which ruled that the BSA in not a private
organization, but a "public accommodation." The LDS Church filed a
friend-of-the-court brief siding with the BSA in that case. |
Irish Times Explains Background for Kenyan Report Against Mormons |
A 1995 report from the Kenyan Presidential Commission
into the Cult of Devil Worship, leaked to the press last year, claimed
that Mormons are one of many groups in Kenya promoting devil worship.
