Former champion at 103 wants to win at 140
ROMEO, MICHIGAN -- An LDS wrestler, state champion at 103 pounds as a
sophomore, is now trying to come back as a senior and claim the state
title at 140 pounds. Scott Norton lost the state championship title
match last year as a junior at 125 pounds, and says that loss is
inspiring him to work harder.
Despite an injury in December, Norton is off to a 17-0 start, including
14 pins, "My goal this year is to win state. It's my last chance. Taking
second last year makes me want it even more," says Norton.
His coach, Jim Cali of Romeo High School, praised Norton's dedication.
"Scott works hard. He's a good leader by example. He's very aggressive.
He'll throw the kitchen sink at you. There's not too many people who can
go six minutes with him. He'll wear you down."
Norton says that he has been inspired by his brother, Brian, who won a
state title three years ago. Now home from an LDS mission in Argentina,
Brian "came back and said he wanted to make me be a state champ,"
according to Scott Norton. "He's been an inspiration to me."
