Indonesian, LDS leaders dine together
Deseret News 27Jan00 N1
LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley dined with Indonesian President
Abdurrahman Wahid Thursday evening in Jakarta and presented him with a
copy of the LDS Scriptures. With President Hinckley at the dinner were
his wife Marjorie Hinckley and President Boyd K. Packer of the Council
of the Twelve and his wife Donna.
During the dinner, which President Hinckley described as cordial, the
men discussed Wahid's health and eyesight; Wahid was treated last year
at the University of Utah Medical Center, and he met President Hinckley
during a follow-up visit there.
President Hinckley is scheduled to meet members of the Church in Jakarta
tomorrow. He started this trip with the dedication of the new LDS Temple
in Kona, Hawaii, and has also visited 625 church members in Cairns,
Australia and 1,500 people who met his plane in Tarawa, Kiribati, a
small atoll in the Pacific ocean.
