LDS Football All-American Joins ASU Basketball Team |
ASU All-American tight end and LDS Church member
Todd Heap joined the Sun Devils' basketball squad on Monday. The 6-5,
225-pound sophomore says he wanted to play basketball since he
arrived on campus as a freshman, and finally decided to do it. "I've
always loved basketball and it's been kind of a family deal," said
Heap after his first practice. "My grandpa played here and his
brother played here. I've been coming to the games as long as I can
remember." |

Danny Ainge may have retired from being the coach
of the Phoenix Suns, but he has gone to work full time being a
husband and father. "My dad's around a lot more now," said son
Austin, a high school senior in Gilbert, Arizona where the family
resides. "He comes to our games, he goes to church with us every
week, and he can be more active in his church calling." "My dad
seems to be a lot more happy and my mom seems happier, too." |
Dutton looking to regain form after two-year hiatus |
Janet Dutton is back on the track after a two year
layoff to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. Returning home from Spain, Dutton had to overcome the effects
of giving up track and field just as she was emerging on the college and
national scene. She even qualified for the United States Olympic Trials
in 1996. |

An LDS family in Raymond has raised 3 sons
that are outstanding athletes, excelling in football, basketball,
baseball and track. In football, the brothers led the Raymond High
School team to a four-year, 48-game winning streak. Now, all three
brothers will play football at the University of Wyoming. |

Nate Knight, who aborted an LDS mission, has transferred from the
University of Kentucky to BYU. Knight had played for Oregon State
before his mission, and then Utah Valley State College for a season
before transferring to Kentucky.

Bonneville High School's Misi Tupe Commits to Utah, after Mission
The 5-foot-11, 240-pound running back will play for Utah following
an LDS Mission. He won't be 19 until March, 2001 and will
"greyshirt" the comming season.

LDS Church Member Marcus Whalen Commits to BYU
The 6-0, 208-pound running back scored 17 touchdowns and ran for
1,920 yards on 238 carries, leading the Thomas Stone Cougars to an
undefeated season in the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference before they lost
to Seneca Valley High School in the state 3A final. Given the loss of
BYU's best running backs, Whalen is expected to play next season.
"That was a big part of the reason I decided to go there. I'm ready to
play," said Whalen.
