Associated Press 29Jan00 N1
OSCEOLA, IOWA -- Four LDS missionaries were killed Friday in a head-on
collision with a pickup truck eight miles west of Osceola, Iowa. The
missionaries were traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 34 when the driver
of their car lost control while trying to pass another vehicle.
When the driver lost control of their vehicle, their car crossed into
the eastbound lanes, and ran head-on into the pickup truck. Both
vehicles burst into flames. The driver of the pickup truck also died in
the crash. His identity was not available.
The four missionaries were returning from an conference in southern
Iowa. The four missionaries were identified as Elders Jaysen Ray
Christiansen, Jared Mont Pulham, Bradley Alan Savage, and Daniel Byrne
Roundy. All four missionaries had been in the Des Moines mission for
less than a year, according to Elder W. Craig Zwick of the LDS Church's
missionary department.
