Could KSL Loose BYU Sports Broadcasts?

PROVO, UTAH -- LDS Church-owned Brigham Young University has reportedly
solicited a bid from Clear Channel Broadcasting for the rights to broadcast
BYU's football and basketball games. The rights are currently held by LDS
Church-owned KSL, which has traditionally broadcast the games.
The contract between KSL and BYU is expiring, and BYU is trying to decide
who should get the rights in the future. Should KSL loose the rights, it
would be a major blow to the station, which gets a significant portion of
its listeners and ad revenue from the BYU games. However, Rolly &Wells
observe that this is most likely a negotiation move to induce KSL to offer
more for the rights. According to Rolly &Wells, BYU isn't happy with the
"low rates" KSL has paid for the rights.
