Former SLOC Officials Use Missionary Lingo Defense |
The two former Salt Lake Organizing Committee
executives accused of bribing members of the International Olympic
Committee claim that a word next to the names of IOC members is LDS
missionary lingo and not an indication of who they would bribe.
former bid executives Tom Welch and Dave Johnson wrote the word
"geld" next to the name of IOC members who were loyal supporters of
Salt Lake's bid. In German the word means money, but in Flemish, the
language Johnson spoke on his LDS mission, the word means gold. |

recruit him to their team. He eventually decided on the Pittsburgh
Pirates after their agent showed up with dozen roses, a box of

An 17 year old Orem girl is an inspiration to those who
feel they face challenges beyond their capabilities. Aimee Walker is
a lovely young lady who is climbing the ranks of the gymnastics
world. And, she's doing it despite being unable to hear, or to see
from one eye. |
Track and Field Teams Take Third in Nation |
Men's and women's teams repeated their third place
finishes at the NJCAA Championships in Edwardsville, Illinois. April
Jackson, a sophomore from Jackson, Calif., stepped to the front of
the class, taking second in the high jump and the 100 meter hurdles
(school record). Shalene Liddle, a freshman from Orem, Utah,
finished third in the heptathlon. Cathy Fuailemaa, a sophomore from
West Valley, City, Utah, took second in the shot put and third in
the hammer. The 3200 meter relay team also took third(Ann Marie
Adams, a sophomore from Spokane, Washington; Courtney Allen, a
freshman from Redmond, Oregon; Erin Park, a sophomore from Kennewick,
Washington; and Amanda Wintch, a freshman from Junction City,
Oregon). Kirstin Ogden, a freshman from Chino, California, paced
herself through 10,000 meters to take third place. |
