PROVO, UTAH -- Saying the publicity and media hype had made their lives too
difficult, the founders of the Provo Fight Club announced yesterday that
they have ended the secret, late-night boxing matches based on the Brad Pitt
movie "Fight Club." They also acknowledged that an earlier announcement that
they had stopped was a ruse to deflect attention from them.
The latest attention came after a Salt Lake City television station aired a
video clip of two women fighting in what BYU claims is BYU approved housing.
The clip led BYU to announce that it will review its policies for approved
housing. Earlier reports indicated that a number of the anonymous founders
of the group were BYU students.
The announcement was made by 22-year-old Todd Bushman outside his Provo
duplex. "We don't want to be associated with the Fight Club anymore," he
said. "This time it's over for real," Bushman said.
