INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI -- The Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit created by
BYU's FARMS is now in Independence, Missouri at an LDS Church there.
The exhibit was created by FARMS to coincide with a major exhibit on
the Dead Sea Scrolls at Chicago's Field Museum. The FARMS exhibit is
traveling to a number of sites in the region for the benefit of those
that can't travel to Chicago for the larger exhibit.
BYU's scholars got involved with the Dead Sea Scrolls aiding in the
translation of the scrolls and their electronic preservation. This
electronic preservation includes fabricating replicas of the scrolls
that can be used elsewhere. So far, BYU's Center for the Preseration
of Ancient Texts has completed the fabrication of three replicas of
the scrolls. These replicas, along with photo-image replicas of other
parts of the scrolls are included in the FARMS exhibit.
In Independence, the exhibit is available from noon to 8 pm through
Friday, June 16th and from 10 am to 7 pm on Saturday, June 17th.
