LDS Church Funding Idaho Shelter
(Two Idaho Lenders Receive Affordable Housing Grants)
Excite News (Business Wire) 15Jun00 D1
NAMPA, IDAHO -- The LDS Church is helping to fund a temporary shelter for
homeless women and families here through the Salvation Army. According to a
description of the project, the Church has provided funding to the Salvation
Army for its 'Salvation Army Temporary Housing' project. The construction of
the project was scheduled to begin in the Spring of this year.
The $884,000 project will provide housing for 12 homeless families and eight
homeless women. The facility will feature 12 family sleeping rooms and two
dormitory-style rooms for eight women. To qualify for the temporary housing,
residents' annual income must be 30 percent or less of area media income, or
about $14,500 for a family of four and $10,200 for an individual. The
project will also require that residents participate in a self sufficiency
program.
In addition to the LDS Church, funding is being provided by the Federal Home
Loan Bank of Seattle through its Affordable Housing Program, the IHFA
Affordable Housing Investment Fund and CDBG. Construction is expected to be
completed by this coming winter.
