LDS Teen Comic Gets Big Break
LDS Canada News 8Jul00 P2
LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA, CANADA -- For two weeks now, Gavin Crawford, 19,
and a Lethbridge expatriate has been running his own comedy show on
the Comedy Network.
At an age when most Latter-day Saint boys are preparing for or serving
full-time missions, Crawford has enjoyed comic prosperity at the famous
Just for Laughs festival, and is now having his career propelled by the
Comedy Network, the same entity that started the likes of Mike Bullard and
Tom Green.
The Gavin Crawford Show started on June 19th, and is only available to
satellite DTH and Videotron digital subscribers.
His segments are quite similar to popular comedian Tracy Ullman, a
collection of short skits showing his acting talent. In the four week long
segment, he will play a punk rocker, a male feminist, a librarian, a
fashion designer, a porn star, a social columnist, and even himself as a
destitute actor.
"He will say and do things on national television that doubtless will
scandalize friends and neighbours of his Mormon family in Southern
Alberta - a locale that doesn't exactly rival Long Island as a breeding
ground for comedians."
