President Hinckley's Brother, Sherman, Dies
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- On August 13, 2000, Sherman B. Hinckley, the
88 year old brother of Gordon B. Hinckley, died of cancer
complications.
This mining engineer and businessman was born October 20, 1911 in
Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Salt Lake schools, spent his
summers on a farm in the East Mill Creek area of Salt Lake county,
then graduated with a degree in mine engineering from the University
of Utah in 1933.
In June, 1947, Sherm married France Jo Wadsworth in the Salt Lake
Temple. Sherm and Jo raised 7 children together. Jo passed away on
January 1, 1985.
On November 22, 1988, Sherm married Eileen Ellis in the Salt Lake
Temple. They led busy lives and were very active in the Church. They
served missions together in New Zealand and Cove Fort, Utah, where
Sherm served as the director of the visitors' center.
As a member of the Monument Park Stake for 47 years, Sherm has also
served as High Priest Group Leader in the Monument Park 11th ward.
He has been a faithful example to his children and grandchildren, who
have so far served a total of 12 missions in the church.
