Young Woman Killed in Accident
STANDOFF -- A one-vehicle rollover accident took the life of Marion Chief
Body, 18, and her friend Terra Heavy Runner, 19, on 19 Aug 2000. The car had
entered a nearby ditch and rolled many times when the driver apparently lost
control on Secondary highway 509, just eight kilometres north of Standoff.
Chief Body, a member of the Blood Branch in Standoff, was actively involved
helping the needy. Many remember her volunteer service as an assistant aide
at the Streets Alive programme in Lethbridge and as she cared for her
grandmother.
Always determined to finish her education, she was pleased to have been able
to achieve the "Most Progress" award three years in a row.
Her enthusiasm in sports could be seen not only in her love for swimming and
volleyball, but in her travels to handgame tournaments throughout Canada and
the United States.
In addition to a memorial service at the Northside Chapel in Lethbridge, 24
August 2000, there was a service later that evening at the Christensen
Salmon Funeral Chapel, a wake the following day, and a funeral mass
yesterday, both held at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Standoff.
