Boston Globe Looks At LDS Church, History of Boston Temple |
In a set of articles starting on the front page of
the Boston Globe, the newspaper looks at the LDS Church and the history of
the Church's Boston Temple, which will open next month for public tours
ahead of its dedication on October 1st. The Globe looks at the LDS Church's
growth and the more dramatic growth of its temples in the two years since
President Hinckley started the small temple program. |
LDS Stake Center Victim of Bomb Hoax |
An LDS Stake Center in Sandy, Utah was the target of a bomb
hoax on Tuesday, leading local police to call in the bomb squad and angest
of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Someone left the
purported bomb at the door of the stake center, along with a note claiming
that it was a bomb. |
Perth Australia Temple To Get Angel |
The LDS Church's Perth Australia Temple
will have an Angel atop its spire soon, says the Perth West
Australian. The traditional statue of the Angel Moroni will top the
$9 million building in Yokine, Australia, outside of Perth. |
Birmingham Temple Attracts Articles |
Newspapers in Huntsville and Birmingham, Alabama
covered the open house of the LDS Church's new Birmingham Temple ahead of
its dedication on September 3rd. The articles looked at the temple's
purpose, LDS missionaries, the critics of the Church handing out flyers
nearby and talking to Elijah Allen Rich, who will serve as the temple's
president. |

"This has been the most intensive summer
construction schedule I've ever seen," says Chuck Frost, director of
Physical Plant at Ricks College. Having worked at Ricks since 1971,
Frost says there has been construction everywhere he has looked this
summer. "Several million dollars have been spent on renovation and
remodeling projects," he says. "At one point we had almost one-fourth
of the campus under renovation at one time." |
