MAGRATH - At the age of 96, Grant Woolley passed away 21 August 2000 to join
his wife. Hazel Woolley had passed away 19 January 2000.
Born 7 June 1904 in Magrath, Alberta, Woolley was the ninth child of Orson
and Alice Woolley. He taught as a teacher in Magrath, eventually serving an
eight-year term as the high school principal. He also helped coached high
school basketball team to two provincial championships.
Woolley managed the Magrath Co-op from 1944 until he moved to the Southern
Alberta Co-op (Lethbridge) in 1947. He also served three terms on the
Lethbridge board of education.
Grant &Hazel married in the Cardston Alberta Temple (at that time called
the Alberta Temple) in 1924. They later served twenty years as workers in
the temple.
In 1951 Woolley was called as stake president of the Lethbridge Alberta
Stake. He was later called as president of the newly-formed Lethbridge
Alberta East Stake where he served until 1960. President &Sister Woolley
were then called to preside for four years over the West Central States
Mission out of Billings, Montana.
A funeral service was held yesterday in the Magrath Alberta Stake Centre,
and Woolley was buried in the Magrath Cemetery.
