President Hinckley to Speak to BYU Alumni
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- President Gordon B. Hinckley will speak to
thousands of Salt Lake area alumni and friends of Brigham Young
University in an unprecedented devotional meeting on Tuesday, 12
September 2000. The devotional, reminiscent of weekly devotionals
held every Tuesday on BYU campus since 1953, marks the first time a
Tuesday devotional for BYU alumni has been held in Salt Lake City.
Sheri L. Dew, second counselor in the Relief Society General
Presidency and a BYU alumnus, will host the event, which is sponsored
by the Great Salt Lake Chapter of the BYU Alumni Association.
"There are more than 43,000 BYU alumni living in the Salt Lake area,"
said Dan Paxton, chapter chair. "Inviting these alumni to join
together in a tradition that has long been a part of the BYU
experience is one way for our chapter to meet its goal of building
the connectedness between BYU and its alumni."
All BYU alumni and friends living in the Great Salt Lake area are
invited to attend the noon-to-1 p.m. meeting. Doors to the Tabernacle
will open at 11 a.m.; attendees are asked to be in their seats by
11:50 a.m.
The Great Salt Lake Chapter of the BYU Alumni Association was formed
two years ago. For information on the chapter, visit its Web page at
