LDS Gymnast Dantzscher Injured Ahead of Olympics
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA -- LDS Gymnast Jamie Dantzscher was injured
Thursday when she twisted an ankle in training, However, US
Gymnastics team coach Bela Karolyi said Thursday he isn't concerned
about the injury. "We know her abilities, we know her heart and what
a fighter she is so I definitely hope to see her performing with the
other team members."
The injury occurred less than three days before Dantzscher's first
scheduled competition, on Sunday, September 17th, when her team is
part of the women's gymnastic qualifiers, held throughout the day.
According to Karolyi, the injury wasn't serious. "We had a small
surprise with the injury to Jamie," he added. "I believe this is just
a temporary difficulty and we are not extremely concerned."
Karolyi was more concerned with an injury to Dantzscher's teammate,
Morgan White, who was forced from the competition Tuesday with a foot
stress fracture. White was conidered the team's most consistent
performer.
