RM Kicks for Cal
BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA -- Cal place-kicker Mark-Christian Jensen
hopes to end the string of bad luck experienced last year by Bears
place kickers. Last year, the Bears place kickers were dead-on
during practice but experienced a bleak showing once on the field.
Jensen, 24, who served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, had been recruited by Brigham Young University,
but passed over by the Cougars. His attempts last week in a game
against Utah gave him an opportunity to show his stuff. He missed on
his first attempt but did make his second kick, as Cal went on to
beat Utah 24-21.
The pressure was increased this week with Cal playing Illinois in
Champaign Saturday, since the game will be on national TV.
Jensen has a goal this year - in addition to being good on his kicks.
"I want to make a statement about myself and about Cal kickers," he
said.
Coach Tom Holmoe, also a member of the Church says, "I feel really
good about Mark," Holmoe said. "He had a great camp and a great
offseason."
