Tagaloa to Play for Bronze; Additional Mormon Athlete Paewai Already Finished

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA -- The US Women's Volleyball Team, including LDS player Charlete Tagaloa lost to Russia yesterday, putting the team in a match against Brazil for the Bronze medal. The loss was the US team's second of the tournament.

Mormon News has been able to confirm that athlete Caryn Paewai of New Zealand is Mormon, although sources report that she is an inactive LDS Church member. Unfortunately, Paewai's participation on the New Zealand's field hockey team is complete. Her team won two games, lost three and tied twice during the preliminary and medal rounds, coming in 6th. Paewai also was relatively unsuccessful, failing to score in six attempts.

Today's competition is busy, with teammates (and LDS Church members) Leonard Myles-Mills and Kenneth Andam competing as part of Ghana's 4x100m relay team. If the team qualifies in the first round heats in the morning, it will go on to compete in the Semifinals in the evening. Jared Deacon, Amy Palmer, Jason Pyrah and Natalie Williams will also compete today.

Mormon News has been unable to confirm that either US baseball player Marcus Jensen or Australian Trampoliner Ji Wallace are Mormon. We are therefore dropping them from consideration.
