LDS Scouts in San Francisco Bay Area Food Drive
DANVILLE, CALIFORNIA -- An LDS scout troop was featured in the Tri-Valley
Herald last week for its planned participation in the annual "Scouting for
Food" program in the San Francisco Bay Area. Troop 805 in Danville,
California, was scheduled to collect food in their area for the food drive.
The annual drive started the weekend before last, as Scouts dropped off bags
at each house in an assigned area with a note asking for donations. This
past Saturday, they went back to the same houses, to collect the donated
food. However, Troop 805 wasn't able to pass out the bags in advance that
weekend, and instead went door-to-door seeking donations.
Troop member Justin Yarkin, a Monte Vista High School sophomore says this is
his third year in the program, "I think it's a really good thing for a Boy
Scout troop to do." The Scouts were to bring the collected donations to the
LDS Chapel in Danville, and from there the donations went to be sorted and
distributed by the Contra Costa Food Bank in Concord. Donations from
Scouting for Food totaled 96,000 pounds last year.
