Altercation in Polygamous Church Meeting Leaves Man Hospitalized
BLUFFDALE -- A Bluffdale member of the polygamous Apostolic United
Brethren Church, Allen Grover, was attacked and stabbed during a 7 am
Sunday meeting held at the church on Monday. The 34-year-old Grover
is in fair condition after undergoing surgery at LDS Hospital. Grover
was stabbed in the neck by an unnamed assailant who is being charged
with attempted homicide.
Salt Lake County Sheriff's spokeswoman, Peggy Faulkner, indicated
that the attacker used a pocketknife. "It was probably good because
he did not do much serious damage," Faulkner said. Sheriff deputies
were unable to subdue the man who was tackled by some of the 30
members who were attending the meeting.
"He would not talk to anyone yesterday," Faulkner said. "We will
probably have to wait until he gets an attorney." Church members said
they did not know the assailant, who entered the church and then
moved forward to the front of the church and grabbed Grover from
behind and attempted to slit his throat.
The Bluffdale polygamous church, headed by Owen Allred, has
approximately 5,000 followers throughout Utah and is located at 16580
S. 1224 West.
