Mormon Titles Slowly Sink on Bestseller Lists
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- The most popular Mormon titles on national
bestseller lists fell slightly again on most lists, dropping off a
few. Orson Scott Card's "Shadow of the Hegemon" remains on seven
lists, but is dropping on all of them. Stephen Ambrose's history of
the construction of the transcontinental railroad, which has
information on the Mormon pioneers that helped build the railroad,
also dropped, but slowly, and remains on six lists.
As expected Anne Perry's Whitechapel Conspiracy returned to the
lists, and may add more lists in the next few weeks as her fans find
the book. Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game, the first book in his
Ender series dropped back off the lists, also as expected, as
interest from readers introduced to Card by his new books waned and
as purchases for high school and college classes were completed.
As Mormon News noted yesterday, we do expect that the paperback of
President Hinckley's book, Standing for Something will appear on the
bestseller lists next month.
The current titles on bestseller lists are:
Nothing Like it in the World, by Stephen Ambrose
A history of the building of the transcontinental railroad in the US.
Ambrose, a highly regarded historian, details the involvement of
Mormons in building crucial portions of the road, including the
driving of the "golden spike" in the heart of Mormon territory.
