With New Album, Donny Osmond Trying Again at 43

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Donny Osmond goes on tour with his new album "This Is the Moment" in May. The first stop is Salt Lake City. But, in an interview with the SLC Tribune, he points out that the road has not always been smooth.

Donny, in the 30 years since Puppy Love and being a child star, has gone through a "bad boy" stage, a mid-life crisis (when he hung out with the likes of Boy George, Billy Idol, and Jeff Beck), and a diagnosis of social phobia.

At one point, while doing "Joseph and the Amazing Technocolor Dreamcoat", he would rather have died than perform. He credits his wife of 23 years, Debi, with advice which helped him to continue. To counter-act he compulsion with being perfect in every performance, she told him "Why don't you just go out there and be average tonight?" He did, and the fans couldn't tell the difference.

For the past six years he, his wife Debi, and his five sons have lived in Provo. The boys liked the change. They enjoyed being "just another Osmond" among many. His oldest is serving a mission in Italy.
