Dutcher to Film Joseph Smith Movie in Palmyra |
LDS filmmaker Richard Dutcher's planned film on the
life of Joseph Smith will be filmed on location in Palmyra, says a news
report on Rochester's WHEC TV10. Dutcher announced last week that his
upcoming film project would be a biography of Joseph Smith with a budget of
$10 million, significantly larger than the budgets of his previous films. |
Unique LDS Architecture Exhibited at BYU |
"Mormon Moderne: New Directions in Latter-day Saint
Architecture, 1890-1955" is the current exhibit of the Brigham Young
University Museum of Art. It will run through the Spring of 2002 and
showcases architectural features such as windows, woodwork and
stonework, along with photographs and drawings that present the
multiple architectural styles incorporated in LDS church buildings of
the first half of the 20th century. |
Bestsellers: Sci-Fi List Shows Card's Influence |
Mormon News added this week the Booksense
bestsellers list to its compilation of Mormon titles national lists,
and found the influence that LDS author Orson Scott Card has among
science fiction readers. Booksense's most recent monthly Science
Fiction and Fantasy Specialty Bestsellers List of the top 25 titles
includes 5 of Card's titles, the highest at number three. The titles
on the Booksense list by Card are "Ender's Shadow" (#3), "Ender's
Game (#4), Speaker for the Dead (#11), Shadow of the Hegemon (#17)
and Xenocide (#23). |
New Products: New Books By Richard Paul Evans, Elder Holland |
Prolific Mormon author Richard Paul Evans has a new
book, aimed at children and published by his LDS distribution company, Evans
Book, which tries to teach children about the sacred nature of their bodies.
That book makes an interesting parallel to Elder Jeffrey R. Holland's new
book, based on a talk he gave at BYU on intimacy. In addition, history fans
have a new paperback edition of Conway Sonne's classic "Saints on the Seas,"
while a University of Illinois Press book by BYU Professor Eric Eliason has
edited a compilation of classic scholarly essays on Mormonism. |
